Today's Reading
Sirach 4:11-19

Wisdom is presented here as a loving mother who teaches and admonishes her children.

She brings all kinds of gifts to those who reverence her: life, favor, glory, blessings, God’s love. They become like priests and judges. She tests their dedication to her direction. If they respond appropriately, Wisdom will give her children knowledge and understanding. The promise of all this is intended to arouse desire for Wisdom in her children.

Wisdom is too complex to be described in a single image. It involves God’s external revelation of Himself. It is an expression of living in touch with God.

Wisdom is not limited to the world of the Old Testament. It is a gift that God makes available to us today if we seek it.
