Today's Reading
Sir 47:2-11
From the wisdom book of
Sirach
the Lectionary now gives us, for our encouragement, a lyrical summary of the life and achievements of David.
David was courageous in facing wild animals and the giant Goliath. As king he subdued Israel’s enemies on every side. David was a man of sincere religiosity. Everything he did was tinged with gratitude to God. “With his whole being he loved his Maker.” He added beauty to the feasts with his concern for the quality of worship and with the psalms that he composed.
True, David was a sinner, sometimes a great sinner, but God forgave him his sins and exalted him forever.
We
are all sinners, too, but the Lord is willing to forgive us as he forgave David.
