Today's Reading
Ps. 102:2-3, 16-18, 19-21

The first reading today gives us a strange episode in the story of God’s people. God lifts up a bronze serpent as a means of healing His people in their affliction.

In the gospel, Jesus speaks of His own redemptive lifting up. His enemies would recognize His true identity when He would be lifted up (on the cross).

The responsorial psalm and refrain are prayers for relief in suffering. “Lord, hear my prayer and let my cry come unto you.”

We all need God’s help. We must all rely on Him. We cannot depend on our own resources for our well-being. Whether we understand what God is doing or not, we know we must depend on Him. "Lord, hear my prayer. Listen to me.”
