Today's Reading
Ps. 116:12-13, 15-16, 17-18

Psalm 116 is a thanksgiving song. The cup of salvation, the blessing cup, is an offering poured out as a sacrifice of gratitude for having been saved in time of need.

For the Christian believer the cup of blessing is an expression of thanksgiving for the salvation conferred by the suffering and death of Jesus. The cup of salvation, the blood of Christ, brings about a communion with the saving action of Jesus.

Every Eucharist in which we participate is a sacrifice of thanksgiving for God’s gifts to us. It is a deepening of our communion with the Lord Jesus.

Do I look on sharing the Eucharist as a sacrifice of thanksgiving? What do I give the Lord in return for His gifts to me?
