Today's Reading
Ps. 118:1, 14-15, 16-18, 19-21

Today’s responsorial psalm is a continuation of yesterday’s psalm. It is a hymn of thanksgiving to God, the victorious Savior of Israel, thanksgiving for salvation, thanksgiving for redemption, thanksgiving for prayer heard.

We need to look on this psalm not only as referring to God’s response to the people’s cry for help in a political or military crisis, but also as God’s response to a call for spiritual assistance, for rescue from dangers greater than material ones.

In this Easter season it is right to be grateful for our participation in the life of the risen Christ, to express our thanks to the victorious Jesus for allowing us to share in His project liberation.

“I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me.”
