Today's Reading
Ps. 87:1-3, 4-5, 6-7

Today the Church’s liturgy gives us Psalm 87 in its entirety. It sings of Zion, Jerusalem the holy city, as the spiritual home of all nations. Everybody is invited to praise the Lord. No one is excluded. Everybody is welcome.

In the process of calling for all nations to share in praising the Lord God of Zion, the psalm extols the holy city as the spiritual home of all the nations on earth. Egypt, Ethiopia, Syro-Palestine, Mesopotamia--all are summoned to acknowledge the one true God and to provide Him with songs of praise. God wants everybody to be at home in Him.

All creatures have the right to say, “I belong here. This is my home.” All nations are called to praise the Lord.
